Melanie

to tour

in March

American singer Melanie will tour Australia this year, probably in March.

She expects to gross around $500.000 this year from tours of America, New Zealand and Australia.

The young singer has been off the scene for almost a year following the birth of her second child.

In the early 70s, Melanie had a. series of hits, including Lay Down Candles In The Rain which topped the charts.

Melanie hopes to get away from traditional concert hall shows this year.

She wants to perform in front of dancing crowds at discos and outdoor concerts.

Melanie . . . back in action.

Melanie Safka

to pack 'em in

Popular American singer Melanie Safka is expected to pack Sydney Town Hall at her concert on March 21.

Tickets will go on sale later this week.

She became a star after the famous Woodstock Music and Arty Festival in 1969, and has since had a string of hits.

Lay Down Candles In The Rain and Brand New Key were two of her biggest Australian hits.

At least four cover versions of her Vietnam war protest song, Look What They've Done To My Song, Ma, have been done internationally.

The young singer has been off the concert trail for more than a year after the birth of her second child In 1974.

Her Australian visit is part of a tour which also includes America and New Zealand. She expects to collect about $500,000 in the first year of her comeback.

International pop stars Abba and Melanie will be guests on the Don Lane Show tonight on TCN 9 at 9. 30.
